I make objects to explore the psychological and social impacts of technology. I often weave my research and making process into a story, told through live performance-lectures, published books, moving image and in exhibitions.
My first book, The Toaster Project, is about my attempt to make an electric toaster from scratch. It has now been translated in to Korean and Japanese editions. My TED talk about the Toaster Project is online. My second book, GoatMan, is about my project to take a holiday from being human by becoming a goat. It’s available!
If you’re interested in talking about the projects on this site, or a commission or collaboration, then please get in touch via email: thomas@thomasthwaites.com. And if you find some work interesting, feel free to leave a comment.
Best wishes, Thomas
ps. I’m currently an associate lecturer at Central Saint Martins, London.
